Love Least Expected Release Day, ft Valerie Twombly Interview

Hiya readers out there in internetland!

So, I’m running way behind this year already.  Shocking.  But I do have a coulpla release day posts to put up for my fellow readers tonight.  Today an awesome anthology went up called Love Least Expected, featuring several authors I enjoy, including the fabulous Valerie Twombly (whose Fang Gang I’m a proud member of).  Check out the deets:

Under the Mango

Meredith Bond

Lakshmi is a good 18th century Indian girl who should not be avoiding her chores and enjoying a mango while hidden amongst the high branches of the mango tree in her mother’s garden. She truly should not be seen by a man who is not a member of her family—an Englishman, no less. And she absolutely should not even contemplate speaking with this man. But Lakshmi has never been one to follow the rules. This time, though, it could ruin—or make—the rest of her life.

Rolf’s Quest

Aubrey Wynne

Baron Rolf Arbrec, the royal wizard for King Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine, is burdened with a centuries-old quest to break the spell cast on his descendant, Merlin. To lift the enchantment, he must find true love without the use of magic or deceit, something that has eluded the men generations before him.

Finding genuine love is no easy task, even for a wizard, and time is running out not only to complete his Quest, but to give future generations a chance at happiness. When Melissa steps from his dreams and into his arms, he realizes his need for her love runs deeper than just a way to free Merlin.

Lady Melissa Garrick travels to London to meet her betrothed. Along the way, she encounters a man who haunts her dreams and makes her reconsider her destiny. Torn between loyalty to her family and her intense attraction to Rolf, she struggles to remain an obedient daughter. Though she desires him, will she defy her family and turn her back on her betrothed? Or will time run out and Rolf be doomed to a life of discontent and bitterness like his ancestors before him?

Fall Into Darkness

Valerie Twombly

Eli lives by his own rules and bows to no one, even when summoned before the Tribunal Seven. They deem the hunter has lost his humanity and sentence the angel to earth with one mission: find some compassion or be condemned to hell.

Ashley considers herself a freak. With one glance into a person’s eyes, she foresees their death. When an attack brings a handsome stranger to her rescue, she can’t help but be drawn to his steel-blue gaze.

Fate will bring them together but desire could bond them for eternity.

~~~~~
Roses are Wrong, Violets Taboo
 Kris Calvert
On the night before Valentine’s Day, floral and greenhouse owner, Alexander Chase Tabeau should be preparing for the biggest day of his family’s business. Instead he’s drowning his sorrows at the Voodoo bar after burying the only real parent he’s ever known – his grandfather, Pops. The rugged and handsome man promised Pops he would get his life together, leaving behind a string of undesirable women and focusing on what was most important – family.
Rose Westwood has always known what she wanted and planned her life down to the tiniest detail. She’s packed up her belongings and is ready to take a new and challenging position with her company as their first female vice president. Not wanting to be alone on her last night in Tampa, she stumbles into what she never planned on – the best night of her life.
With nothing to lose and everything to gain, Rose and Chase spend one night confessing their hopes for the future and their failures of the past. After opening their hearts to one another, the morning after sheds new light on their destiny. Can one night together change them both forever?
~~~~~

Alphabetical Disorder

Katie Stephens

Everyone in Mason’s Circus understands and respects the powers of the resident gypsies—the Romani tribe—and most steer clear of any involvement. But when Susie gets caught in a web of prophecy and magic that brings danger to the troupe, her non-Rom interpretation turns out to be flawed. She pushes aside the man of her dreams to date alphabetically, in the hopes of saving her circus family.

Sam has had his eye on Susie since she joined the company. He’s puzzled by her actions, but not blind to the way she responds to him. A patient man by nature, he battles his need to claim her immediately or allow her game to continue. When disaster strikes, they join forces with their Romani friends to stop the curse before it destroys the circus.

~~~~~
Love’s Not Viral
Nessie Strange
Twenty-four-year-old bartender Aster Sanderson’s life is turned upside down when drunken Hollywood actor Bradley Stone snaps a picture of her…and tweets to his 12.8 million followers that she’s his fiancee. As the internet blows up with the news and gossip flies out of control, she’s left feeling helpless. This has to be a misunderstanding, right? But when the actor in question shows up on her doorstep, it’s clear he’s unhinged and she soon becomes a prisoner in her own home (literally).
Her savior? Bradley’s handsome—and seemingly normal—older brother, James, who quickly stirs up feelings she never expected. Can they disarm the ticking time-bomb that Bradley Stone has become before any more damage is done? And is their mutual attraction the result of these unusual circumstances…or could it become something more?
~~~~~

Taking the Plunge

Kishan Paul

Since graduating high school, Eve Cambridge has dropped ten dress sizes, became an RN, and dumped her jerk of a boyfriend – all on her own. So when her high school crush shows up in her life, she does what any normal self-reliant woman would do — pepper spray him.

Since inheriting the family plumbing business, Peter Russo has tried to make the best of a career he never planned for. He’s made his share of mistakes, but he’s worked hard to learn from them. Now that he’s run into Eve, he’s not so sure he isn’t making another one. After all, she did almost blind him.

When logic and emotion don’t agree, which path should they follow?

~~~~~
The Trouble With Never
Isabella Harper
Summer McKenzie is starting fresh.  With her soon to be ex-husband in another state, she’s ready to start over in her small Texas town.  That is, until she runs into the one person that has never gone too far from her memories, or her heart.
Since graduating college, Caleb Davis has planted roots in the form of a thriving BBQ business.  He’s got everything he’s ever wanted, except the one woman that he could never have.  It’s clear she’s had a painful past, but he wants nothing more than to create a promising future.
Will she let love heal old wounds, or will she let her fears push him away?
~~~~~

Keep Calm and Eat Chocolate

Michaela Miles

Eleanor Carrara is angry. At the world, at the people who had her committed to the institution, and at the people holding her captive in it. When the sexy, but calm and stoic Chris becomes a fellow resident of the facility, things begin to change. He taunts her, challenges her, and even makes her cry. But her anger dissolves as she realises he’s the one person who may be able to break through the armour built around her heart.

Christopher Tailor feels nothing. Haunted by the memories of his awful past, he is institutionalised, and utterly alone in the world. Meeting Elle changes everything. She’s conceited, rude, and completely unaware that in some ways she’s just as broken as he is. But something about her gets under his skin. He takes a chance and shares his secret with her.

Valerie Twombly

As a child, Valerie would often get into trouble for peeking at her mother’s favorite TV show, Dark Shadows. She can still hear her mother saying “It will give you nightmares.” She was right of course, but that did not stop Valerie from watching. As an adult, her love of the fanged creatures never waned. She would watch any vampire movie she could find.

Being a true romantic, Valerie was thrilled when she discovered the genre of paranormal romance. Her first read was one of Lara Adrian’s, Midnight Breed Series and from there she was hooked.

Today, Valerie has decided to take her darker, sensual side and put it to paper. When she is not busy creating a world full of steamy, hot men and strong, seductive women, she juggles her time between a full-time job, hubby and her two German shepherd dogs, in Northern IL.

Valerie is a member of Romance Writers of America and Fantasy, Futuristic and Paranormal Romance Writers.

A retired music teacher and curriculum writer, Katie Stephens has opened that box and switched her need to create from music to literature. She writes both non-fiction and fiction, where she happily experiments with all genres.

When her muse takes a break, Katie is a staff reader for freeze frame fiction and a grant writer for the Empire & Great Jones Creative Arts Foundation. Isabella Harper

Isabella Harper has been putting her imagination to good use since she was a child. Throughout school, she would get caught reading or creating a story of her own instead of doing whatever it was that she was supposed to.

For now, she is fulfilling her life with her husband and being a stay at home to her two young children, at home in Texas.  When she’s not working on obtaining fitness certifications, writing a new contemporary Southern romance, or spending time with family, she’s probably enjoying a weekend in the countryside.

And, because Valerie rocks, I also have an interview with her.  Here ya go, guys:

*What is your writing process? Do you write best in certain situations or will you write anywhere?

When I first began, it had to be in my office with no distractions. Now I can pretty much write any place and I’ve even been able to add music while writing. There is still one place however that I still get distracted. In front of the TV, I find myself watching it rather than writing.

*What do you do when a character tries to change your story? Do you go with the flow or try to steer it back on track?

I always go with the flow and they have yet to steer me in the wrong direction. I’m not a stickler for following a strict plot.

*Your angel story will be launching a new series. Can you tell us anything about the angels or the series? (If it’s too early to say, you can skip this question)

I am so excited about this story! I will apologize now to the readers for the slight cliffhanger in the anthology. Never fear, the entire story will be forth coming.

Right now I don’t have the series plotted. I am a panster when it comes to writing and don’t always know what is coming up. I can say that I am building a world with different types of angels and they get a brief mention in the anthology. I’m hoping to take a little time to sit down and begin creating some characters. Who knows where this will go, but it will be fun to see.

*What turns you off in the opposite sex? Do you find that you give these qualities to the villains in your books?

Men who stink. I’ve never given that trait to a villain because even they need some dignity.

* If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you have and why?

Ipad, so I could read and I assume there is Internet, lol. I’m addicted to Facebook. Toothbrush, I need a clean mouth. Aidyn, from my Guardians series. I have dreams about that man, also why I need the toothbrush.

*Which animal do you think you are most similar and why?

A tiger. I’m quiet and lurk in the shadows then pounce when you least expect it.

Now, who’s excited to read this anthology?  Show of hands?  I thought so.  Check it out!

Happy Readings!

Touch of Frost and January Black re-release

image

Hiya!
So, Lynn Rush and Wendy Russo have releases today!  Or rather, re-releases. And a FB party!  Check em out

WENDY’S INFORMATION:

I am re-releasing January Black in print on the 15th, and Kindle on the 25th. Purchasers of the print copy will be able to pickup a Kindle copy for $0.99, and members of Amazon Prime will be able to read the book for free via Kindle Unlimited until March 25, 2015.

January Black Blurb:
Sixteen-year-old genius Matty Ducayn is the son of The Hill’s commandant. As such, he’s expected to conform to a strict, unspoken code of conduct. Small acts of defiance over years—such as walking on the grass—have earned him a reputation for being unruly. When sarcastic test answers finally get Matty expelled from school, King Hadrian offers him a diploma if he can answer a deceptively simple question, and then dismisses the only answer.

To prove his worth to society, Matty wrestles with the king’s word games, the kingdom’s historical record, and laws that don’t make sense. He meets Iris Locke, a street smart gardener, along the way. After enchanting him at a glance, Iris helps his research, keeps him out of trouble, and finally breaks his heart.

Alone again, Matty finds himself on collision course with a deadly law, one he will have to break to answer the king’s question. Was Hadrian challenging him, or teaching him a lesson? Without Iris, it won’t matter, because Matty won’t stand down for anyone else.

January Black is the 2013 Readers’ Favorite Silver Medal winner for YA-Coming of Age.

Wendy’s BIO

Wendy S. Russo got her start writing in the sixth grade. That story involved a talisman with crystals that had to be found and assembled before bad things happened, and dialog that read like classroom roll call. Since then, she’s majored in journalism (for one semester), published poetry, taken a course on short novels, and watched most everything ever filmed by Quentin Tarantino. A Wyoming native transplanted in Baton Rouge, Wendy works for Louisiana State University as an IT analyst. She’s a wife, a mom, a Tiger, a Who Dat, and she falls asleep on her couch at 8:30 on weeknights.

LYNN’s INFO:

I have three novels releasing on the 15th–The Touch of Frost Trilogy. Originally they were released Amazon (digital) Only. But now, it’s everywhere, **including print**. So, since three books can be overwhelming, feel free to just focus on the Frostbite cover if that works for you. I’ll send a graphic that has all three covers on it.  🙂

BOOK BLURBS:

Frostbite (Touch of Frost #1)

–Book Trailer here: http://youtu.be/azsucCVtXL4?list=UUjjm2Iqo7D67gGnKG17tv2g

Amanda gives a whole new meaning to cool…

Amanda Smith is sick of getting chased from town-to-town. So when she lands in tiny Trifle, Arizona, she hopes it’s her last move for a long time. Despite hating the smallness of the town, she settles in and finds a best friend, and even a boyfriend. Normality at its finest.

But for a girl who can shoot snow from her hands and lift a two-ton truck over her head like a bag of feathers—normal is not an option.

The scientists who murdered her mother come barreling into Amanda’s quiet life. She must decide if she’ll run again or stay and fight. The price of either choice might be her life or the lives of those she’s come to love…

Absolute Zero (Touch of Frost #2):

Death may be the only way I can live…

The Center is destroyed. Mandy and Georgia have their own place near campus and are ready to start their new lives as college students. All that’s missing is Mandy’s steamy relationship with Zach. His sudden distance and irritability has Mandy wondering…and possibly wandering.

Nate Ashcroft, a beautiful, but mysterious, guy literally falls into Mandy’s life, shattering her already unstable relationship with Zach. When an unknown agency sets its targets on Mandy and Georgia, ugly truths of Mandy’s powers, her parents’ deaths and the people she’s chosen to trust send her life into a tailspin.

One only her death can stop.

Cryostorm (Touch of Frost #3):

They made his body, she’ll awaken his soul…

Three months ago, my twin sister, Georgia, and I had to die so our loved ones would be safe from the scientists hunting us. After months of searching, we’re close to finding the one person who can help us find closure, Georgia’s adoptive mother, Lois.

Snowstorms and an unexpected run-in with GenCorp, the latest entity charged with capturing us, delay our mission and break our spirits. The only light in my supernaturally chaotic life is Nate. He’s given up everything to protect and take care of me, and each minute I’m with him confirms how much I love him. Finally ready to share my heart again, I take the next step, admitting my true feelings.

The mad scientists who want to tear me apart and use my body for a freak show, once again taint my happiness with a disturbing technology that rips Nate from my arms. As I battle GenCorp’s warped technology to save my soulmate, I’m faced with the vivid reality: the Nate I knew and fell in love with may be lost forever.

And if I get him back, will I still be able to say those three precious words?

Karen Lynch Double feature: Relentless and Refuge

image

Hiya! In honor of Karen’s new release (I know, I’m a few days late), I’m posting reviews for both Relentless and the sequel Refuge. I devoured both, and Karen leaves her readers (or at least me) absolutely ravenous for more. I was lucky enough to be included on her launch team and received an ARC of Refuge.
So, first, Relentless.

image

Synopsis:
Sara Grey’s world shattered ten years ago when her father was brutally murdered. Now at seventeen, she is still haunted by memories of that day and driven by the need to understand why it happened. She lives a life full of secrets and her family and friends have no idea of the supernatural world she is immersed in or of Sara’s own very powerful gift.

In her quest for answers about her father’s death, Sara takes risks that expose her and her friends to danger and puts herself into the sights of a sadistic vampire. On the same fateful night she meets Nikolas, a warrior who turns Sara’s world upside down and is determined to protect her even if it’s the last thing she wants.

Sara’s life starts to spin out of control as she is hunted by an obsessed vampire, learns that her friends have secrets of their own and reels from the truth about her own ancestry. Sara has always been fiercely independent but in order to survive now she must open herself to others, to reveal her deepest secrets. And she must learn to trust the one person capable of breaking down the walls around her.
Review: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
6 stars! Five is not enough. I’d give it a million, but I don’t think I have that much space. Haven’t been so thoroughly drawn into a New world since a picked up Shadow Falls. Action, shady dealings, and fantastic, fascinating creatures right from the beginning. Sara is a wonderful heroine with a great many strengths and natural flaws. Stubborn and strong, I love watching her go toe to toe with everyone and doing what she feels is right no matter what. Plus we get Roland, broody Nikolas, and Dimples ;). After reading this, I was absolutely ravenous for Refuge. Karen Lynch writes fantastic fiction, and I can’t wait to she what she has in store for us next!

And now Refuge! Let’s start with a teaser:

image

Synopsis:
To keep the people she loves safe, Sara left everything she knew behind. She soon learns this new world is nothing like her old one, and she struggles to make a place for herself among the Mohiri. But it soon becomes apparent to Sara and to everyone one around her that she is not your typical warrior.

As the weeks pass, Sara builds new relationships, copes with her new trainers, and tries to manage her ever-changing powers, while keeping her unique heritage a secret. Looming in the background is the constant shadow of the Master who will do anything to find her.

Sara finds herself on a journey of self-discovery that uncovers her true strengths and awakens a part of her she never knew existed. She experiences the delight of new friendships, the sweetness and pain of first love, and a loss so deep it could be the thing that finally breaks her. At the end of it all, she discovers that the one place she was supposed to be safe might not be the refuge she thought it was.

Review: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
6 stars again. I’d put more, because it absolutely deserves it, but breaking the 5 star system says it all, right?
If Relentless was spark, Refuge is fireworks. Action every time you turn the page, new friends, enemies, family, and creatures that will keep you up reading long after you promise yourself “just a few more minutes”. Its a thrilling ride, full of sizzle, spunk, revelations, new faces, secrets, heartache, and betrayals. I love each and every one of Sara’s new friends every bit as much as I fell for the original crew in Relentless. And the sparks fly, in more ways than one ;).
Eagerly awaiting news of book 3, here, and I encourage my followers to pick up Relentless while it’s free, as well as snatch up copies of Refuge while they’re at it!
Karen Lynch is quite the mistress of storytelling, and I quite rabidly await whatever she has for us next, be it Sara, Jordon, Madeline, or a new world entirely!
How about one more teaser before you go:

In more ways than one.

She wants to keep her scholarship. He wants to stay on the team. An awkward alliance doesn’t even begin to cover Rimmel and Romeo’s relationship.

But that’s about to change.

It starts with a dare. An initiation. A challenge.

Quickly, it turns into more. But when you’re a victim of your status, there is no room for anything real. The rules are clear and simple.

Stick to your circle.

And never fall in love with anyone on the outside.

My Review: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Loved this! So much. I can’t believe that I waited so long to pick up a copy. Stayed up all night reading. The story is consuming, the characters compelling, and the alternate POV was a marvelous choice. I laughed, and cried, and fell in love with Rimmel and Romeo. Not once does #Nerd disappoint and I’m already eagerly awaiting #Hater.

WICKED Excerpt:

He left me standing there as he disappeared into the bathroom, and I tried to make sense of what just happened. All I knew was that the punch-in-the-chest sadness that came whenever I thought of Shaun wasn’t there. And I didn’t know what to make of that.

Or anything.

Taking a deep breath, I put my clothes on his dresser and all but dashed into the bed, and good Lord, the mattress was comfy! I scooted to the middle and froze, having no idea what side he slept on or if he had a side. I totally had a side—always the furthest away from closet doors because I was a dork. Straightening the shirt out so my undies weren’t saying hi to the world, I tugged the blanket up to my hips and lay flat on my back.

I so needed an adult to explain to me what the hell I was supposed to do from this point on.

There wasn’t much time to stress over it because Ren returned from the bathroom. His ever-present half grin spread as he saw me. I clutched the blanket, my breath caught in my throat. My heart pounded so fast that I wondered if I was going to have a heart attack, and God, wouldn’t that be embarrassing. I swallowed nervously and willed my heart to slow.

Turning off the lamp, shadows fell around Ren, but when he faced me, I could tell that he’d frozen. I couldn’t make out his expression as he bent, taking a hold of the covers on his side.

“Ivy?”

“Hmm?”

He slowly edged the covers back from his side and climbed in, and although I couldn’t make out his eyes, I knew he was watching me. “I’m happy that you’re here.”

My fingers eased off the blanket.

As he stretched out beside me, my eyes adjusted to the lack of light, and I could see that he was smiling. “Are you?”

“Yeah,” I whispered.

“Good. That’s all I wanted to hear.”

Wow, the warmth that flooded my chest could’ve turned me into a puddle of goo in that bed. I waited for him to make a move on me, but seconds ticked by. He seriously was behaving himself. I dared a quick peek at him, and found I could not look away.

Ren lifted his arm closest to me, and a heartbeat passed. I hesitated for a moment, and then, my heart pounding even more, I slid over until my leg brushed his. He curved his arm around my waist and drew me up against his side, guiding me down until I was nestled against his warm, bare chest. Another moment passed and then I lowered my cheek, and the simple pleasure of lying like this nearly broke me right open.

WICKED Synopsis:

Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

Hansel 4 is Live! ARC review and release week blitz

image

Hiya guys!
For those of you who are legal (18 and up only please, this is dark erotica), check out Ella James’s newest twisted fairy tale, Hansel. As with her previous fairy tale serials, there are 4 parts (so far it says, sign up for Ella’s newsletter to keep posted!) and part 1 is free.

Hansel is the story of Leah and Hansel/Edgar/Luke (which name is really his? read to find out). In part one, Leah finds Hansel again after years of searching for him. In part two, he tries to push her away after finding out who she is. In part three, she fights to keep him. And in part four, he starts fighting too.
Full of twists and surprises, Hansel is well worth the read, and a brilliant rummaging of a classic tale.
There is a man, a woman, a sex club, and a mask. There’s pain, and pleasure, love, and secrets. A past shared, a present in flux, and a question of the future. With all the secrets and all the lies, where is the breaking point? Who will break, and who will bend? And in the end, will a fragile love survive the weight of the past?

Review (caution, a couple early part spoilers forthcoming) :
Part four of Hansel is just as gripping ad the remainder of the serial, well worth the wait and just as full of surprises as parts 1-3.
Luke and Leah are both fighting now, to hold on and to let go. But Mother’s house still has a dark hold over them both, and the weight of the secrets threatens to break them both beyond repair. Luke remains determined to let Leah go, as her determination to hold onto him grows fiercer. When Luke’s secrets begin to come to light, their fragile peace shatters about them.
I loved this serial, and even I didn’t see all the twists that came. I adore Luke and Leah, and I love them together. All that growth they achieve just by fighting for and pushing past what they already have. Watching the lies unravel and the secrets come out, I rooted for them all the way. I cried, I ached, I smiled. Ella James never disappoints, as she’s proved yet again with this newest chapter of Luke and Leah’s story. Can’t wait to see what comes next.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
(6 stars. My rating scale is broken by my love of this book)
A huge thank you to Ella for letting me be on her launch team and providing ARCs for review.
Now, for those of you who have been waiting for part 4, it’s live! And for those of you unfamiliar with the story so far, pick up part one…it’s freeee. Just like the first parts of Red and Beast are.

Kate
